The Last Seed in the Dead Garden
For three years, nothing grew in this garden. Not one flower. Not one leaf. Everyone had given up and walked away. Everyone, except one tiny seed that nobody knew was still there.
The Garden Nobody Wanted
The garden behind the old house was dry and silent. The soil was cracked, the fence was broken, and the watering can lay rusted on its side. People said the garden was finished. What they did not know was that deep under the dry soil, one last seed was still alive, waiting for its one chance.
A Whisper in the Dark
One night, the seed heard something. It was not wind. It was not rain. It was a soft whisper in the soil. "Wake up soon," said a tiny voice. "The rain is coming, but it will only come once." The seed did not know who spoke, but its heart beat faster. If it missed that rain, it might sleep forever.
The One Rain
Days later, the sky turned grey. A single storm rolled over the garden, and rain fell hard and fast. The dry soil drank it in, drop by drop. The seed felt the cool water touch it for the first time in years. It stretched, cracked open, and sent a tiny root down and a brave sprout up. It had only one chance, and it had taken it.
The Crow
But growing in a dead garden is dangerous. On the third morning, a big black crow landed on the fence. It had sharp eyes, and it loved eating seeds. It hopped closer, closer, closer to the tiny sprout. The sprout froze. It could not run. It could not hide. Just as the crow opened its beak, a cat jumped onto the fence and scared it away. The sprout was safe, but only just.
The Storm That Broke It
Then came the real test. A wild storm tore through the garden at night. Wind bent the sprout almost to the ground. Rain hammered its leaves. A branch fell and snapped its stem halfway. In the morning, the sprout lay bent and broken. Anyone would have said it was over. But deep underground, its root was still holding on, tight and strong.
The Secret Strength
What nobody could see was happening below the soil. While the stem looked broken, the root was growing deeper, stronger, and wider every day. It was drinking water from far below, where no other plant could reach. Slowly, very slowly, the bent stem lifted itself back up. It was thinner where it had broken, but it was tougher than before. The garden had tried to break it twice. It had failed twice.
The Flower Nobody Expected
And then, on a quiet golden morning, it happened. At the top of the plant, a bud opened. But it was not yellow. It was not red. It was a deep, glowing blue, a colour no one had ever seen in that garden before. Its petals shone like the sky after rain. Bees came from far away, just to see it. Butterflies followed. Even birds stopped to look.
The Garden Wakes Up
Within weeks, something magical spread through the garden. Where the blue flower stood, the soil turned soft again. New green shoots pushed up around it, as if the flower was whispering to them, "You can grow too." Soon, the dead garden was not dead anymore. It was alive, colourful, and full of buzzing, fluttering life.
And it all started with one tiny seed that everyone thought was gone, in a garden everyone thought was finished. Never count out the last seed.
